The Inception:
The first DAV institution was established at Lahore on June 1, 1886. This missionary consciousness fostered many more institutions over the north of India. Sublime endeavours continued and contributed to the phenomenal progress and momentous growth of the organisation. With the rapid expansion of schools all over the country, an urgent need for consolidation was felt and the DAV Institute of In-service Education was set up in March 1991.The DPPI is an extension of the DAV Institute of In-service Education.

The Task:
The prime task of the Directorate is three fold -
  • TRAINING
  • RESEARCH
  • NETWORKING
We make an effort to enhance the capacities of our institutions so that they are able to provide quality education to our children. Our objective is to bring about the following changes in the DAV task force:
  • To effect attitudinal changes and encourage self- learning
  • To update the knowledge base and to leverage the existing competencies and skills
  • To promote a spirit of inquiry & scientific temper
  • To foster the capacity building of the institutions by utilizing the available resources
  • To sensitise all towards the DAV ideology
Armed with a multi-dimensional approach, this department has tried to facilitate the entire task force (approximately 30000 in 675 institutions) in their professional growth. Thus, the Directorate undertook the task of not only updating the conceptual knowledge but also provided opportunities for the holistic development of the DAV task force. An interactive platform was offered during various in-service programmes, to exchange innovations, share concerns and problems and explore solutions. In-house and out-house resources were pooled involving experts, educators, policy makers from within the DAV Organisation as well as from national organisations like NIEPA, NCERT, CBSE, SCERT, DU, NCTE etc. Thinkers like Prof Yashpal, Prof Abdul Kalam, Dr.Kreet Joshi have been invited from time to time to motivate our educators.
